How This Website Makes Us MoneyDo you know how to create a website that works? How to create more than just a site - a web business? I do. And I'd love to share what I've learned with you. No, I'm no web-whiz. In fact, I could barely surf the web intelligently when I started this site. So stick close, and I'll tell why I started this site, how I started this site, and why I'd never use any other web hosting and program than the one I use. Then I'll tell you how you can do the same. And make money writing about something you love. I don't know where to begin. I met the man behind the SBI! madness in July of 2006. At a workshop designed to get a website started and set you up right away toward success. I liked the sound of that. I'd recently quit working full time for my husband (running his office while homeschooling two kids), and was starting my own business to keep up my side of the income stream. Like everyone else, I was hoping for the "quick fix", but I have to be honest right up front. This is not a "get-rich-quick" scheme (otherwise known as GRQ). If that's what you're after, this isn't the place. And in my personal opinion, you're probably throwing money away if you think you've found a GRQ scheme. I don't know any. And I've looked, believe me. Anyway, I met the man who started this "tortoise-beats-the-hare" method of making it on the web. And wow, was I impressed! His name is Ken Evoy, and after being an emergency room physician and teacher of emergency medicine, he decided he wanted to help normal folks (non-web-gurus) have success online with their business, like the big businesses do (merely because everyone already knows their names). Thank you Ken! Ken's a great guy, and so were the ten SBI! coaches who came to help out, along with Ken's daughter, Nori. Since the coaches all had successful SBI! businesses already, we knew ahead of time this could work. They were all great. So helpful and eager to get us on the road to success. My head was spinning before the five days were up. But remember, this is not a GRQ plan. And I've certainly been a good tortoise, as you'll see. Or maybe I've been a bit of a hare, too. Let me explain. That long weekend in July taught me a lot. Crammed too much into my head too fast. And because I still had work I was doing for my husband, and kids to teach, I didn't get to work on my site too much at first. Then, I got a little crazy. (Anyone who knows me would beg to differ with that. I've always been crazy. It's not a recent change.) Because I'd started one site (this one) "successfully", I figured I'd better put up one for my graphic design and marketing business sooner rather than later. Ah, the hare in me coming out. I changed directions, split my focus, and neither site got very far very fast. Even worse, when Ken offered a "buy one, get one two-thirds off" special, right when one of my first two sites renewed the next year, I bit, thinking I could squeeze in a third site in an area I was passionate about. While the other two sites were still moving slow. Okay. That's what a hare does. Bounces around in fifty different directions. Doesn't help that my life's like that, anyway. I only made it worse. So, I started this site s-l-o-w-l-y... which you're supposed to do, but not by picking two more topics to make sites about at the same time! The good news is, I've stuck with this site (and my newest one) long enough, it's finally beginning to make money for me. Just a trickle, but I'm building toward a flood (can I sandbag with web pages?) in the near future. As I said at the beginning, I'm no web-geek. More of a web-wuss. (Don't tell anyone!) So even if I had the time to figure it all out, I doubt I'd remember all the little things you need to do to make a website work right. Much less get traffic so it'll make money. You do know you need traffic to make money, right? And putting up a website doesn't mean someone's going to "drive by" and see it, and maybe stop in. Right? Do you know how to catch their attention? I don't know about you, but I much prefer working for myself and setting my own hours. (Don't have to get out of the lounge clothes!) And I adore doing things I enjoy to make money, instead of doing things I dislike, working for someone else. Check out one way others make money like I do with info-publishing . That's only one of the many ways you can make money online. But how do you turn a website into a web business? Remember? We just talked about this. You need more than web pages. You need traffic. You need great content. You need an easy-to-navigate site so visitors enjoy their visits and come back repeatedly to see what's new. I don't know about you, but I've seen some sites I hope I never stumble across again! (Maybe I need to start a "least favorites" list to avoid them.) Where was I? Oh, yes.
