Find a Unique Souvenir of Durango at
This Native American Art Gallery

What would you like to find in a Native American art gallery? Gorgeous works of native art, and crafts with centuries of tradition behind them? A unique and exquisite souvenir of your visit to Durango Colorado?

You'll find both at Toh-Atin Gallery. This nationally known gallery has been around since 1957, and while we don't go in regularly, when we do, it's like visiting a fine art gallery or museum.

A gallery of Native American art work

They carry art from a large variety of Native North American tribes, from Eskimo to Northwest Coastal tribes to the many Southwest Pueblo tribes. Perhaps you like Navajo weavings: they have plentiful rugs and wall hangings to choose from.

Native American art piece Bronze sculptures rest on shelves and tables throughout the gallery, some small, some quite large (such as a 70 inch tall sculpture of a woman).

more Native American art work Of course Toh-Atin Gallery offers paintings and prints as well as jewelry. And no collection of Southwest art would be complete without Katsina dolls (also seen spelled as Katcina and Kachina, though the Hopi Indians who make them use the spelling "Katsina").

Most Katsinas are made from a single piece of cottonwood root. Cottonwood trees are considered special by these people because their roots always search out water, which can be a scarce and precious commodity in this arid region.

Navajo baskets

Maybe you prefer baskets or pottery. They have both in a wide array of designs.

Toh-Atin carries another item common to most Native North Americans: fetishes. For those who don't know what they are, fetishes are objects these people consider to contain a spirit. If treated with respect, they are thought to offer supernatural help.

Native American fetish Many animals were considered sacred (and still are) to native peoples, and Toh-Atin Gallery carries a wonderful variety of them, carved from many different stones. Definitely a unique memory to bring back from Durango.

No matter what sort of souvenir or artwork you're looking for, Toh-Atin, the best Native American art gallery in Durango is likely to have it. Come and see what you think!
