Colorado House Pictures: More of Our House Progress, Part 7
Update: January 23, 2010 Happy New Year! No, we aren't in the house yet, but here are more house pictures to show how far it's come in the last two plus months. That's right, it's been over two months since I had time to post more pictures. Since I'm working over there seven days a week (and I'm the one who knows how to do this), there just isn't much spare time for picture posting. But, let's get right to it. This month, I'm trying a new format. Because of how long it takes me to format tons of pictures, upload them and get them just right on the page, I'm going to try a slideshow. It's at the end of the page, after my description of all the fun we've been having with the house the last two months. Okay, here's what's been going on... Remember the roof that never got done? It finally got done on January 5th. You can see a few different views of it, plus the unlucky roofer who thought the snow on the north side would hold him up... not a chance! We had to dig him out, he was so stuck after sliding off the roof with a whole load of snow. Then we have house pictures our fancy front sidewalk... uh walkway... uh "board"walk. Okay, it's not there anymore, but it's what was keeping us out of the mud for awhile. And decks. Remember how many decks we have? Five. (Yeah, greedy, huh?) The last two are finally done (not counting railings on any of them): the one off the master bedroom and the main one off the great room on the east side of the house. And did I tell you? We have POWER! Not that we have any lights in place, yet (need an inspection, first). But we can plug in saws and drills and air compressors (to run the nail gun and such). We're close to having heat, even. The concrete FINALLY got poured in November for the basement. But before concrete came rebar and heat coils. Now we have a floor! And it isn't even dirt. Next we got the top of the driveway and the parking areas finished (yes, parking areas, plural... remember, I'm married to a motor-head and mother to another - not to mention my large family that will be out for dinners and such now and then). And the "board" walk turned into a gravel path. (Does that make these parking pictures instead of house pictures?) Let's Get Goofy Time out for a little silliness... After the big storm in December, Jessi went out to shovel the deck at the rental house and got tired. You can see her "resting" in the snow. The other picture is the guy who plows our uphill driveway when the snow's deep. We'd do our own with our tractor, but it's eight miles away (and that's a long drive at 10 miles an hour). Then, of course, we interrupted the house-building to shovel. And plow, and snow blow, and dig out the wood for the fireplace (three times!). And Minnesotans complain when they get six inches of snow! (I always laughed, having lived out here long enough to get used to three feet in a storm, half the time.) Okay, back to house pictures. Note to self: there will ALWAYS be more tongue and groove boards to stain. The pile seems not to diminish, no matter how many times I do a batch! But it sure looks good up on the ceilings! Now, we have a fireplace, but only plastic over the garage doors until... Voila! Garage doors and a service door! We can hold heat in now! And the plumber is rapidly getting the rough plumbing in, the heat for the main floor is going in (that's my rock-climbing nephew crawling across joists to pull heat pipes into place, by the way). And I'm getting a crick in my neck everyday, stapling up the aluminum plates that hold the heat coils in place for the main floor (up in the ceiling of the basement). But it's all worth it. Take a look and see for yourself:

What's Next? Will the Hendersons Ever Move In? More house pictures have been taken, but not processed. The rough plumbing is done, the heat system is nearly ready to fire up, the well is hooked to the house now... The wood ceilings on the main floor are all up, the electrical is three-fourths in and nearly ready for inspection... I'm sure I'm forgetting something. Oh! Steps! We now have stairs all the way to the basement. Which is good. I was getting tired of the ramp. Anyway, I'll get back to that with the next batch of house pictures, if I ever have any free time (ha!) again. If this slideshow works, I'll add pictures that way. It's a lot faster. The current plan is to move out of the rental by February 28, so be warned, you may hear nothing else from us until a week or so after that. In the meantime, enjoy these house pictures of our place and wish us best of luck getting it all done fast enough! Just to pique your interest, besides all the house pictures we're taking, Jessi's been working on some videos, too. Now that I've learned how to upload them, keep tuned for more fun in the sun in Southwest Colorado. Ta-Ta for now! Check Out the Rest of Our House Pictures on These Pages:
