Two Durango Colorado Restaurants That Offer Local Brews
These Durango Colorado restaurants brew their own beer. While my husband might enjoy a beer now and then, I can’t say I like it (personal preference – I don’t like any alcoholic beverages). And my kids aren’t old enough to give their opinion, yet. We can, however, comment on the food offered to go with the beer. And the atmosphere of the places, too. We tried both of the places listed below on our Christmas 2006 trip. You might like one, too. If you give one of these Durango Colorado restaurants a try, let us know what you thought with our

This is one of the Durango Colorado restaurants that's been around quite awhile. We went for lunch one day. The service was fast and friendly, the food good (soups, salads, chili, sandwiches and such). They don't list it, but I wanted a fruit plate, and when I asked, they were happy to oblige. Apparently, it's one of their offerings, just not on their menu. This is a cozy little restaurant, but obviously enjoyed by the locals, as well. We went late for lunch (2:30, I think), and it was still full and busy.
Steamworks Brewing 801 East 2nd Avenue Durango CO 81301 970-259-9200 - or - 442 Wolverine Drive Bayfield CO 81122 970-884-7837
This is a newer restaurant, and it has a "branch" in Bayfield, as well. We stopped at the Bayfield location for lunch. Both locations have a variety of their locally brewed beers (with names like "Powder Daze"), plus sandwiches, southwest tacos, a couple of Cajun choices, and, on their appetizer list, "Rocky Mountain Oysters". This is a sports bar, with corrugated steel, warehouse construction. Quite a departure from most of the restaurants in Durango. A fun atmosphere, though, with colorful modern art on the walls (which you can buy, if you like it - prices are listed), and a bench made from old pick-up tailgates. Other decoration on the walls include various road signs they've picked up over the years, such as "Bayfield; Altitude 6900 feet", and "Gem Village" (a tiny, nearby town), and "Hermosa Creek". Definitely one of the Durango Colorado restaurants (and Bayfield!) that we can personally recommend.
