Colorado Pictures: More of Our House Progress, Part 6
November 15, 2009 Well, I'd intended to post more of our Colorado pictures sooner, but progress has been less than stellar, so it took awhile to be worth posting. See, in Durango, when hunting season opens, everyone goes. At least everyone working on our house, did. (Not Randy and Kevin. We don't hunt.) Of course after a rainy October week and a snowstorm on top of that, they couldn't do as much work for a few days. But once hunting season opened, the weather was gorgeous (and the subcontractors gone). Now, after contractors not showing up for two weeks, they finally came back (or said they would in some cases and didn't), and we've had another snowstorm. Still no metal on the roof... The good news is that when the subcontractors aren't around, we slap siding up as fast as we can (because it has to be on before we can move in). So, without further ado or whining... here are more of our Colorado pictures. Porches and Decks Galore Because of the layout of our house, we have five porches and decks. Two covered porches on the front, which are very warm and cozy when the sun's shining, since they face south.
When we left off last month, Jessi's porch was just going up. Now we have hers done as well as the one off the greatroom.
Not too long after that got done, roof and all (and roof wrap, but no roof), we had eight inches of snow. Oh boy. (Does make for some fun Colorado pictures, though.) Here's Kevin plowing the driveway for us.
Then, it got nice. So our contractors went hunting. And we got started putting on siding. After we started siding around Jessi's porch, we finished the back wall (cautious not to dive into that until the last of the snow had slid off the back roof).
And since we had time on our hands, we also put up the framing for the deck off Randy's and my bedroom.
What To Do When The Contractors Go Play Since one of our contractors actually bagged an elk and "had to process it" instead of returning to work when he said he would, we continued to add siding.
To break up the style a little, we got shingle-style siding to do the upper portions of the entry and great room gable. Here are "Colorado pictures" of Randy and Keith putting shingles up, with Kevin below on the scaffolding handing them siding pieces.

And voila! The entry siding is done.
How About a Little Heat? The fireplace... we ordered that in late September and it was supposed to be installed about two weeks later. Except then they called to say it was held up and it would be two weeks more. About the time they'd finally scheduled to put the fireplace in (hunting season) the installer got sick. (Or did he go hunting?) They called the day before installation to say they were running a week behind. And they'd be here the following Thursday. Hmmm. Except then the guy got bronchitis on top of whatever else he'd had (I think this one was really sick, not hunting). We finally got the fireplace the next Monday, though the wiring has yet to be connected for the blower. But Randy tried it out this weekend, since it was colder again.
Then it was right back to putting up siding. High. We had help come over to do the gables. Randy didn't want to crawl around on the roof (me neither). Now the front siding is done, too.
Then, since we had extra hands on... hand... we put up the posts and began the framing for the east deck. Boy is it big! With the 2x4s temporarily stabilizing the posts, it looks a bit like Stonehenge - in the snow. (Colorado pictures of Stonehenge, huh?)
And of course, the we've got a snowy driveway again, though it didn't need plowing this time.
And, for now, that's all. I promise I'll keep posting pictures, but it will soon get less exciting to see progress. I doubt pictures of wiring and plumbing will be much fun to see. See you again as soon as I have more Colorado pictures to post!
